Already a firm favourite with the likes of Jazzy Jeff, Norman Jay, Bobbito, Gilles Peterson and Erykah Badu, Freddie Cruger has been bangin’ out platters of black gold from his Stockholm studios since the early 90s.

Freddie first encountered hip hop in the 80’s when his brother was collecting vinal hip hop and worked in an import record shop in Stockholm. This lead him to buy loads of records and in turn his decks, drum machine and then a few years later a sampler.

Forever switching between his Freddie Cruger and Red Astaire alter egos, a barrage of top quality 12s have made both names a permanent fixture in DJ boxes across the globe.

In 2003 Red Astaire’s ‘Follow Me’ single on the GAMM imprint achieved widespread notoriety. A hook-laden, crowd-pleasing mash-up built around the a-cappella of a well-known soul tune, it went down a treat with DJs, tastemakers and partygoers the world over.

After more than ten years in the business, Freddie finally released his debut longplayer on Tru Thoughts in October 2006.
