Special K made a name for himself around the Riverside/Inland Empire area, known to appear battling on local radio shows and at community events. Byron Davis, another aspiring Inland Empire hip-hop artist got together with K and began recording by 1985. The Southern California-native Special K is credited along with close friend Byron Davis in helping to launch the career of J.J. Fad. Davis recently said that Special K ghost produced the group's "Supersonic" single before it was picked up and revised by Arabian Prince, DJ Yella and Ruthless Records. After appearing with Byron Davis & The Fresh Krew through their stints on 4-Sight and Hot Productions, he restationed himself in the South through his military service.
