Teknobrat is Thomas J. Stépien, a Montreal native living in Ottawa. Aside from his own releases, he produced many releases on numerous reputable techno/house labels.
Musically active since 1987, Stépien studied trumpet and piano and has worked for many years at ABM Records, a dance music record shop in Ottawa. He finds inspiration in early Detroit techno sounds, as well as the late '80s/early '90s Chicago acid house and Ghetto Trax sounds. When DJing publicly as Teknobrat, he weaves Minimal Tech House, Electro/Funky & Tribal Techno, Acid House, Detroit Techno, House and essential underground Disco Classics. He has also hosted two radio shows: La Teknosphere (CHUO 89.1 FM, Ottawa, Sep 1997 to Feb 2005) and Planet Rave (CKCU 93.1 FM, Ottawa, 1991 to 1997).
