Protégés of [a=Scarface (3)], Facemob formed around the talents of five rappers from five different states, with no connections that didn't involve the former Geto Boy. Florida native [a=Devin The Dude] originally performed with Rap-a-Lot's [a=Odd Squad]; Houston's Smit-D was a childhood friend of Scarface's; [a=350], the only female member, was invited after passing him a tape at a show in Cleveland; from St. Paul, [a=DMG] originally impressed Scarface so much he gained his own solo album (1993's Rigormortiz) for RAL; and Chicago native Chi-Ray, who the group formed around, wasn't so much a rapper as a veteran of area talent shows.
