Soul music singing duo, best known for recording the original version of Harlem Shuffle, in 1963.

The original line-up consisted of [a=Robert Byrd] (b. July 1, 1932 in Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.A.) and [a=Earl Nelson] (b. Sept. 8, 1928 in Lake Charles, Louisiana). They had both been members of The Hollywood Flames, a prolific doo-wop group in Los Angeles whose major hit was 'Buzz Buzz Buzz' in 1958.

By 1957, Byrd had started a parallel career as soloist, writing and recording, for contractual requirements, under the alias 'Bobby Day'.

In 1960, Byrd and Nelson worked together as 'Bob & Earl' but, unfortunately, these releases had relatively scarce success, leading Byrd to restart his solo career.

Nelson then engaged [a=Bob Relf] (aka Bobby Garrett). They recorded several singles for different labels, before recording 'Harlem Shuffle', produced by Barry White, which was a modest success in America and a major hit in England.

By that time, Relf had left the duo, and Nelson had gained further success as a solo artist under the alias "Jackie Lee", with 'The Duck', a hit dance record released in 1965.
