Hog Haul Valentine is the solo project of Jack Crawford, a nom-de-musique of [a=Paul Blanchard]. As with Blanchard's previous band [a=Canis (2)], Hog Haul Valentine focuses around visceral themes of death in rural New Zealand, murder ballads, and abattoir aesthetics. In contrast to the noise-rock of Canis, though, Hog Haul Valentine uses a more industrial palette, with loops of metallic percussion and musical nods to J.G. Thirlwell, Michael Gira, Tom Waits, and Nick Cave.
