As a senior executive with several networking companies throughout the 1980s and 90s, Howard was looking forward to a time when he could work more with music (he had built a number of electronic instruments and effects before he went off to his univeristy). Never without a home studio, he never had the time to make music, but instead he provided a laboratory for artists to experiment with new electronics.
True to his word, he left the technology business and returned to music before turning 40. He designed a label to be friendly to electronic artists worldwide, and that label is Unschooled Records.
