Old Funeral was founded in 1989 in Norway by Tore (guitar), Padden (drums) and Olve/Abbath (bass, vocals). They released a three song demo in March 1990. Afterwards Olve/Abbath left the band and formed Immortal. Shortly after Varg Vikernes joined the band as second guitarist and some other guy named Thorak joined as bassist. Padden took over vocals.

They released another three-song demo in January 1991 and a one-song demo in May 1991. Varg Vikernes was replaced by Jørn, who was also playing in Immortal at the time and later he left for Hades Almighty. In September 1992 they recorded a four-song demo. The band eventually split up and LP's and the album "The Older Ones" (a compilation of all the demos) were released.
