Demoncy is a seminal American black metal band founded and led by guitarist [a=Ixithra]. The band originally formed in 1989 as a solo project by Ixithra, alternately calling himself the Wicked Warlock Of Demonic Shadows or Lord Of The Sylvan Shadows. It would take three years before the cassette single [r=4725328] was released, and another two before their first full-length [m=318933].

During this time, constant changes in the lineup prompted Ixithra to temporarily abandon Demoncy and collaborate with former members of [a=Incantation] in the band [a=Profanatica], and to pursue other musical projects.

More low-fidelity recordings were eked out over the following years with lineup changes still a constant hindrance; two of these demo sessions were excerpted on the CD version of [r=2674286] in 1999. That same year saw the release of [m=110792], a much-anticipated album that had originally been announced for release five years before. It received nearly universal acclaim and has attained classic status in some circles.

2003 saw the release of Demoncy's next full-length album, [r=1738145]; its slick production and more guttural vocal style were a distinct change from the raw and cold atmospheres of the earlier releases. This album led to tours across the US and Europe and appearances at several metal festivals. In 2004 the band was interviewed in the March issue of Terrorizer magazine. This same year saw the release of a split 7" with [a265883] from France.

The band entered the studio in 2005 to record the next album, but Ixithra was dissatisfied with the results and destroyed the recordings and fired his bandmates, leaving the status of Demoncy unclear. The band remained on hiatus until the release in 2012 of their fifth studio album, [m=514488].
