Bluesman of Cherokee origin and exuberant one-man band.

He learnt drums and harmonica at the age of nine and first appeared in public in 1938.

Due to the knowledge of medicine of his ancestors, he was posted in the military hospital while in the army.

After the war, he became "Doctor" and set up his band which played throughout the Delta and on various radio stations.

He was one of the first bluesmen to record for Sun.
