Amsvartner was formed in 1993 by three teen-agers, including a pair of twins (Albin and Alfred Johansson) comprising the rhythm section. Eventually a proper lineup was formed, with the final piece being none other than the twins' older brother Marcus on vocals. By 1997 the band had a record contract and a debut EP, The Trollish Mirror. Considering the age of the members (all but Marcus were still in their mid-teens), it's a decent if not outstanding product, displaying typical Scandinavian energy in the black/death metal field. Their full-length debut, Dreams, came out a year later, a release that saw the band honing their melodic death metal sound, inviting comparisons to bands such as Diss and ATG. Neither blindingly original nor wholly derivative, Dreams showed promise from a still-young band. They were active up to 2000 but haven't been heard from since then.
