New Orleans-based bandleader, trumpeter, composer, producer and arranger, born December 24, 1920 in Edgard, Louisiana, USA.

He led his own band in 1946 and recorded his first session in 1949. Since then, he has over 4000 songs in his catalog. He's behind the discovery of [a=Fats Domino]. In the 1950s, he was employed by [l=Imperial].

Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1998.

Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 (Non-Performer).
