Founded in the early 90s by David Brown (basses, guitars), Sean Baxter (drums/junk) and Tim O'Dwyer (reeds). Around 1996, the line-up expanded with the arrival of Adam Simmons (soprano saxophone) and James Wilkinson (trombone, electronics). Breaching the boundaries between so-called serious and popular music, Bucketrider's mixture of free jazz/punk/metal, improvisation and new music has placed them at the forefront of the Australian experimental scene.
In addition to their specialised repertoire (including performances of John Coltrane and Sun Ra), Bucketrider have also gained a reputation in Melbourne's pub music scene as a dynamic and exciting live act.
