American singer/songwriter, arranger, pianist and conductor, born December 5, 1922 in Beijing, China. He began formal piano lessons at the age of four. At the age of 7 years moving back to the USA, he had to also learn how to play brass instruments. He but did not forget his piano training. His career as a song writer began with the collaboration with [a=Hal Blair] about 1953, the following year, scoring his first major success when his song [i]I Really Don't Want To Know[/i] was recorded by [a=Eddy Arnold]. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972.
