Hayden is a cousin of [a=Don Van Vliet] (aka Captain Beefheart) and appeared briefly in a line-up of [a=Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band] as the clarinet player, most notably on the album [r1690822] and on stage in November 1969 with the band at the Amougies Festival in Belgium [see [l13232]].
A life-long friend of The [a=GTO's]' [a=Pamela Des Barres] since high-school days, featuring in her book 'I'm with the Band' (1987).
Hayden is also a modest painter. He provided the cover art for [r1718051] and has had minor exhibitions in the USA. Hayden is also associated with the 1986 California movement that helped the budding Berkeley punk scene at 924 Gilmore Street [aka Alternative Music Foundation], where artists like [a411847] & Sweet Children metamorphosed. The track 'Mascara' on [m30172] is a small homage to Hayden.
Hayden also co-founded [l26061] with [a=Mark Deutrom].
