Tom Smith (b. May 10, 1957 in Greenville, North Carolina, USA) is an American trombonist, bandleader, educator and author.

He has worked with a great variety of artists, including: [a=Louie Bellson], [a=Donald Byrd], [a=Herb Ellis], [a=Woody Herman], [a=New York Voices], [a=Manhattan Transfer, The], Carolina Pops Orchestra, [a=Tommy Dorsey], [a=Henry Mancini], [a=Bob Crosby], [a=Ben E. King], [a=Gladys Knight], [a=Temptations, The], [a=Aretha Franklin], [a=Four Tops], [a=Isley Brothers, The], [a=Platters, The], [a=Drifters, The], [a=Crystal Gayle], [a=Charley Pride], [a=Roy Clark], [a=Boots Randolph], [a=Perry Como] and [a=Cher], among others.

From 2002 to 2008, Smith was appointed a Senior Fulbright Scholar, and assigned to the National University of Music (Bucharest, Romania). While in Bucharest, he founded the Romanian National Jazz Ensemble and the Bucharest Pops Orchestra, and was awarded the Romanian version of a Grammy Award. He was a frequent conductor for Romanian television broadcasts.

Currently he serves as an Associate Professor of Music, Director of Instrumental Music in Shorter College, Rome, Georgia, USA.
