New Zealand's original funky drummer, is one of this country's most eclectic and educated DJs. He has a long list of credentials including being a founding member of '80s punk funk legends the Newmatics, English indie/dance crossovers the Woodentops, Aotearoa's first truly live local dance band Lava Lava and Fat Freddy's Drop trailblazers the Crackhead Experience (whose other members included Fat Fred's Mu and Dallas). Benny Lee was one of the first people to bring Auckland and Wellington dance talent together at the landmark Easter 1998 Uprising at The Box & Cause Celebre. He introduced clubbers to the best of old and new at the classic disco inspired Paradise Bomb, he pioneered the New Zealand UK garage/two-step scene with Hooky and teamed up with DJ Tobi for the first Thunder & Joy sessions.
