American actor, singer and writer (October 16, 1952 to January 16, 2002).

Taylor had numerous film and television roles, appearing in [i]The Simpsons[/i], [i]Twin Peaks[/i], [i]Ally McBeal[/i] and [i]L.A. Law[/i]. He voiced jazz musician [a="Bleeding Gums" Murphy] on The Simpsons (1990-1995).

As a vocalist, he performed with [a=Billy Joel], [a=Bruce Springsteen], [a=Etta James], [a=Sheila E.], [a=Slash (3)] and others. His blues band, the Nervis Bros., played at clubs and other venues around the country. He was nominated for Broadway's 1999 Tony Award as Best Actor (Featured Role - Musical) for "It Ain't Nothin' but the Blues." He also provided the voice for "Audrey II" in the original theater production of "Little Shop of Horrors" (1982).

He was married to [a=Deborah Sharpe-Taylor]. His nickname was "Sugar Bear."
