Stephen Spender (February 28, 1909 – July 16, 1995) was an English poet and essayist who concentrated on themes of social injustice and the class struggle in his work.

His [a=Federico García Lorca] translations, made in collaboration with [a=J.L. Gili], appeared in 1939.

Spender was made a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in 1962 and knighted in 1983.
