Also known as "The Appalachia Vagabond", brother of [a=Bill Shepherd (2)] and [a=Hence Shepherd].
Born around 1890, Hayes lived in Jenkins, Kentucky.
He played banjo in the classic Kentucky two-finger style and sang in the "high lonesome" sound that came to be associated with the area.
Between them the Shepherd brothers recorded ten records for the Lonesome Ace label, but only two were issued.
