Bell Laboratories - also known as Bell Labs and formerly known as AT&T Bell Laboratories - is part of the research and development unit of Alcatel-Lucent - merger of Alcatel and Lucent Technologies and previously the United States Bell System.
Bell Telephone Laboratories Inc. was established 1925 by Walter Gifford as a separate entity from AT&T which would take over the work being conducted by Western Electric's engineering department's research division. Bell Labs is headquartered at Murray Hill, 600 Mountain Avenue Murray Hill, New Jersey, USA.
