Detroit-born American composer and saxophone player (1940 - November, 1998).

Peter Van Riper has been a graduate of the University of North Carolina, and continued in arts at Tokyo University, and the University of Michigan.

Van Riper has performed extensively in Japan, including a USIS tour, in the U.S. at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and at And/Or in Seattle, and in New York City at St .Marks Church, Experimental Intermedia, The Kitchen Center for Music, and The Museum of Modern Art. Notable collaborations include performances with [a=Simone Forti], Eugenia Balcells, and Sha Sha Higby.

Van Riper has also been a member of "Editions, Inc." from 1967-1970, an Ann Arbor (Michigan) gallery, operated by Lloyd Cross.
