Formed in mid-1996 by members Puya and Sisu, La Familia released their debut album, Baieti de cartier (Homeboys), in 1997. It didn't do much for the group, as it was released on casette tape only and the sound quality had much to suffer.
However, La Familia took the Romanian music scene by storm when they released their sophomore effort, Nicaieri nu-i ca acasa (Ain't No Place Like Home) in 1998. Supported by two hit singles, the album quickly went gold and catapulted Puya and Sisu to an early superstardom in Romania.
Member Tudor Sisu brought notoriety to the group for his drug problems, for which he served multiple jail sentences in the mid-2000s in Romania.
Aside from their group work, both Sisu and Puya have established successfull solo careers.
